On the Hunt

3 days in and we are exhausted.

This island is a paradise with a rich history to pair with it. But, so far the areas we have been in have been full of very affluent travelers and seemingly professional vacationers. We managed to partake because family members shared hotel points with us and we stayed in Le Meridien for 3 nights. We left that lap of luxury behind and are staying in a hostel, which is still a privilege that we found one and can afford it. I am just bitter I had to carry my 50 LB suitcase up a spiral staircase.

Marisa and Alex why do you keep moving to temporary places if you're going to grad school there????

Well--we are on the hunt for an apartment. If you think apartment hunting is fun in an area you know, imagine how exciting it is in an area that is brand new!! -_- We took advice from our program and decided to wait to search for places because they said and people online said "not everyone is trustworthy", "the pictures are not always real", or "it's is just better to go through an agency". Now we have been left high and dry and everything in our price range either doesn't exist anymore (eyeroll and agencies trying to upcharge) or is occupied. We have been ignored and walked in circles which makes it even more frustrating; however, we are hoping to get a response from JK Properties, which believe me the irony is not lost on us.

This is difficult because right now we are living like travelers even though we are moving here: we cannot unpack our luggage, we cannot cook in our kitchen, and we have nowhere to call home. On top of that, we are hangry because we have been limiting our meals in an effort to save some money.

Sidenote: when looking to save money in Malta drink tap water. Most sources say you cannot drink the water, but upon an extra 5-minute search you aren't supposed to drink it because it tastes bad...

We are in a beautiful frustrating limbo right now, but hopefully, the tide turns in the next couple of days!
